Northern Ireland’s golfing pedigree is elite. World-class links such as Portstewart and championship parklands like Galgorm Castle see to that. Even the sport’s most illustrious competition tees off on these rugged shores; Royal Portrush hosted The Open Championship in 2019 and will do so again in 2025. Just a 30-minute drive from the world-renowned Royal County Down is a links no less spectacular. Ardglass Golf Club hugs the coast like few other courses on the island, with the Irish Sea visible from ALL 18 tees and greens. It’s a historic club, too, with the oldest clubhouse in the world, dating back to 1405! First built as a fortified warehouse, the medieval structure now houses a pro shop, restaurant and bar so the fun can continue to the 19th hole. On the course, there are water hazards aplenty, with the roaring sea coming into play on eight holes. So it’s a stern challenge with gorgeous coastal views, that’s Northern Irish links golf to a tee (no pun intended).

2. Templepatrick Golf Club, County Antrim
If you want to start golfing as soon as you land in Northern Ireland, head for Templepatrick Golf Club in County Antrim, which is only a driver and a long iron away (so to speak) from Belfast International Airport. You can stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Belfast Templepatrick, a fine four-star hotel that overlooks the 18-hole course. The action unfolds across 220 acres of park and woodland on the Castle Upton Estate, and at more than 7,000 yards, the well-designed parkland is quite the test. Templepatrick also boasts a driving range, a short game zone and a pro shop, so it really is a one-stop golfing shop par excellence.
